Programme Aims
It provides students with the knowledge,
skills and practical experience about telecommunication and networking technologies,
while preparing them for a career in the industry or pursuing professional certifications,
(e.g. Huawei, Cisco Career Certification), and providing articulation paths to UGC-funded local universities.
Practical work in the programme will be based on recognised trade certificates so that skills
are of direct relevance to industry practice and new technologies.
The programme is designed with an emphasis on generic and language training, whole-person development and workplace experience to better prepare students for further studies and employment after graduation.
The programme is linked to the “Earn and Learn” scheme. Upon completion of the full-time first year of the programme1, the student may choose to study in the “Earn and Learn” scheme. Under the “Earn and Learn” scheme, students will be employed by the participating companies as registered apprentice for two years in the “Earn and Learn”. During the two-year training period, there will be salary, government allowance and additional subsidy. Furthermore, the employer will sponsor the apprentice to study the Higher Diploma (HD) programme in Part-Time (Day) mode.

Remarks:
1.
Students may join the VTC Earn & Learn Scheme, where in the second and third years,
they receive on-the-job training while continuing their studies. During this period,
they can complete a Higher Diploma on a part-time basis, sponsored by their employer,
with tuition fees covered by the employer. They will receive a monthly salary of no
less than $10,000, an additional annual government allowance of approximately $30,800,
and a total allowance cap of $54,000.

The Higher Diploma in Telecommunications and Networking provided an excellent
learning environment that allowed me to gain valuable skills and deepen my understanding
of ICT through practical applications, all with the support of passionate teachers.
Fortunately, I joined the VTC Earn & Learn Scheme and secured an internship at a
networking company. This experience became one of the most valuable milestones in
my ICT learning journey. I was able to apply the knowledge gained from work to my
final year project at school, which significantly enhanced my academic performance.
After graduation, I continued my studies by entering Year 3 of the BSc (Hons) in Computing programme at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. I hope to continue equipping myself through various job opportunities while also giving back to society.
